If Seneca County is under a Level 3, the Seneca County Probate and Juvenile Court will be closed.

Judge Jay Meyer

The Honorable Judge Jay A. Meyer was elected as the Seneca County Juvenile and Probate Judge in 2008. He is a lifelong resident of Seneca County who grew up in a large family, which included many foster children. Public service is a core family value passed down to him by his parents, the Honorable Gerald D. Meyer (Seneca County Juvenile and Probate Judge 1978-1998) and Jo Anne Meyer.

Judge Meyer is a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He received a B.A. degree from Ohio Northern University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. After Law School, Judge Meyer served as an Assistant County Prosecutor for Seneca County. He has also worked with the Seneca County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services (SCDJFS).

In 1998, Judge Meyer entered private practice and began working for Shuff Law Offices until he became a partner in 1999. During his 10 years as partner of Meyer & Kerschner law firm, Judge Meyer focused primarily on business/institutional representation, litigation, and probate.

Judge Meyer’s community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for the Seneca County Commission on Aging and the Tiffin-Bucyrus YMCA. He also serves on the Governing Board of the Northern Ohio Community Correctional Facility.

Judge Meyer supports Seneca County youth in and out of the courtroom. He has served as a Career Day and drug awareness group panelist, a Mock Trial Judge, a Celebrity Reader for area kindergartners, a SMYL mentor, and a youth basketball and volleyball coach. He is also the proud recipient of the 2021 Youth Asset Award.

He and his wife Heidi have four children.
